Art Gallery of Steven M. Ashe
High Quality Giclee Prints on Archival Paper and/or Canvas
Thank you for visiting our art gallery of works created by Steven M. Ashe, ClydeRae’s late husband. Reflecting Steve’s voracious capacity for learning, for experimentation, and for disciplined practice, these images include oils, acrylics, watercolors, oil pastels, and soft pastels, all on a variety of surfaces. There are high quality giclee prints of all images available.
The giclee prints were created by Van Gogh Again, of Louisville, Colorado, on their wide bed printer, using a descendant of Steve Ashe’s original software. As both an artist and a talented software developer in the printer industry, Steve was an architect of the original software for the first ever color printer.
When Steve was dying much too early at age 52 of pancreatic cancer, he gave this piece of wisdom to his step-children: “Do what you love. Life is uncertain. I would rather have worked less and painted more.”
Steve created half of this gallery in the last six months of his life. He was still captivated by form, texture, and color, creating images of both the natural world, the whimsical, and the fantastical. In many of the paintings he is exploring his own process: the recognition of illness, the acceptance of change and death, and the emerging perception of something intriguing beyond.
Please enjoy these glimpses into a brilliant and deeply original mind and consciousness. Note how many of them reflect Steve’s own criterion for a good painting: at each viewing it should present something new to the viewer, as though the world of the painting had been continuing between the viewings.
